Te Wahanga Maori Print E-mail

Following the successful Māori Breakfast at the Involve 08 conference, we set up a network for Māori who work with young people.

In December 2008, network members met to establish a Māori Caucus within NZAAHD - Te Wāhanga Māori.

We have developed a Māori name for NZAAHD - Taumata Manaaki Rangatahi (The peak body of those caring for young people).

The purpose of Te Wāhanga Māori is to inform Taumata Manaaki Rangatahi and to act as a voice to address issues affecting Māori.

Te Wāhanga Māori will be a conduit between NZAAHD Members and National Council.

  • Māori voice, policy direction, tikanga and kaupapa advice for National Council
  • Whakawhanaungatanga, manaakitanga and identification of key issues for Māori

NZAAHD's Rangatahi Māori Health and Development Project

NZAAHD is very excited to announce that with the help of the Todd Foundation and JR McKenzie we are establishing our Rangatahi Māori Health and Development Project.

The project will be guided by NZAAHD's Te Wāhanga Māori

NZAAHD members who are Māori can have input into the project by joining Te Wāhanga Māori. Contact Maddy Drew on 04 382 9944 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it by Wednesday 09 December to input into this initial stage.  Ongoing input will be a part of Te Wāhanga Māori membership, which is always open to Māori NZAAHD members.

Māori representation on National Council

Te Wāhanga Māori is also seeking indications of interest from young Māori, working with young people to act as one of their representatives to NZAAHD's National Council.
