Youth Week 2010 evaluation and 2011 update

NZAAHD is happy to announce the dates for Youth Week 2011...

May 21 - 29!!

Youth Week 2011 will be held once again in the last week of May - nearly half of all youth week 2010 evaluation participants wanted to keep it in May, so that's is what we are doing! We have also kept Youth Week 2011 as a 9 day week so that there are more weekend days for Youth Week fun!!

You can see a full copy of the Youth Week 2010 evaluation here.

The wonderful Njela Sharrock has left NZAAHD, on to bigger and better things!  We thank her for all her hard work that made Youth Week 2010 a huge success.

We are excited to announce that Andrea Leersnyder (previously our Office Manager) is taking over as our Youth Week Campaign Coordinator.  She will be in touch in the next few months about Youth Week 201.  You can reach her on This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Leadership Review Update

Update 04 June

Update 25 June

Following up from our announcement in the beginning of June that NZAAHD and NYWNA will be joining together to create a new national youth organisation, we are excited to let you know we held the first of several stakeholder meetings  on 17 June in Wellington.  This was a great success, with lots of positive feedback and offers of support for this new organisation.  A Transition Committee has been established to guide this change process and they will be holding similar hui in Auckland and Christchurch over the next few months.  We will be in touch soon with dates and details for those meetings.

Today we are posting for two positions to help with this process of establishing a new national youth organisation.  The first is for a Change Manager to support the Transition Committee.  This is a 6 month contract to help manage the development of the new organisation and the transition of NZAAHD and NYWNA into this new model.  The second is for the NZAAHD National Executive Officer role.  For personal reasons Trina King has resigned from this role, though she has indicated her ongoing support for NZAAHD and the change to the new organisation and hopes to be at Involve helping out.  The NEO role is also for 6 months to maintain NZAAHD's current work programme through to the establishment of the new organisation (see below for detail).

This contract will be for the period from July-December 2010. This is an outcomes based contract, and payment will be made on the completion of key milestones.

Update 04 June 2010

As you are aware we have been undertaking an NZAAHD Leadership Review. This has been about considering the future of NZAAHD and leadership in the youth sector and as part of this we are have been meeting and dialoguing with the National Youth Workers Network Aotearoa (NYWNA) as well as other sector groups.

We are excited to announce that NZAAHD and the NYWNA are joining together to create a new national youth organisation.  We anticipate that the new organisation will have different work streams including Youth Work, Youth Development and Youth Health.  We believe it is in the best interests of the sector for our two organisations to step forward together to ensure collective sustainability, influence and effectiveness.

As our idea of a new national youth organisation gains momentum, we'd love for members and stakeholders to be involved in its co-creation.

We are having a meeting of key stakeholders in Wellington on 17 June 2010 and there will be regular updates in our magazine and on the website.  We expect the new organisation will be launched at the Involve Conference in Auckland 17-19 November 2010.
