Welcome to new Rangatahi project staff member

Keri Lawson-Te Aho, who has whakapapa to Ngati Kahungunu ki Wairoa, Ngai Tahu, Tuhoe and Rangitane, has been contracted until 31st May 2010 to deliver the first stage of NZAAHD's Rangatahi Maori Health and Development Project.

Keri will work closely with Te Wahanga Maori members James Makowharemahihi, Karanga Morgan and Elizabeth Kerekere and Maori members of NZAAHD branches to ensure that key Maori stakeholders and supporters of NZAAHD lead and guide this project.

The overarching goal of the project is to ensure that individuals and organisations working with Rangatahi Maori, are well supported and connected.

Stage one of the project includes

1. a brief literature review and environmental scan on issues impacting Rangatahi Maori and strategies designed to address these;

2. an online survey of current NZAAHD members about how they support Rangatahi Maori and whether they have particular support needs when working with Rangatahi Maori.

This information will be included in a project report with recommendations about next steps for the Rangatahi Maori Health and Development Strategy.

Keri can be contacted via the National Office and welcomes your input into this important project for the NZAAHD network and Rangatahi Maori.

E updates will include information about the project until the completion of stage one on 31st May 2010.

Six ways to help NZAAHD for free

NZAAHD's always been about members working for members.

Here are some simple things you can do to support your organisation and each other:

1. Adding your events and news to the NZAAHD forum

Easy, free and you can do it at any time. Relevant items get added to our weekly e update for distribution to the masses.

There are instructions on how to do it here and if you have any problems, the NZAAHD office crew are happy to help - call (04) 3829944 (They're really very friendly)

2. Add (non-commercial) events for young people to the Youth Week page

Free advertising and it gets plenty of traffic all year round so why not? Plus it raises awareness for Youth Week, bonus!

3. Linking to our websites from yours

Linking to relevant sites helps to boost your search ranking and ours too. Make sure we have your web address to link from our Members page. Want a copy of our logo for your link? We've got two to choose from: "Taumata Manaaki Rangatahi" or "For People Working with Young People"

4. Encouraging people who work with youth to join NZAAHD

Young people will be better off if more people working with / researching / developing / teaching / treating / leading /fostering / mentoring / advising / training / representing / caring for them (and everything else) are informed, supported and connected. Find out more about membership here.

5. Let us know if there's anything in need of updating on the website

Do we need to add a resource or fix a link? Tell us and we'll do it asap!

6. Asking anyone who cares about young people to do all of the above!

"Ehara taku toa i te toa takitahi engari he toa takitini"

"My strength is not that of the individual but that of the multitudes"
