SPY - Shades of Pacific Youth Print E-mail

Our SPY mission statement is   "to support the development of a skilled workforce, who are connected, sustainable, supported, effective and confident when working with Pacific young people".

In 2009 SPY held two successful Fono for people working with pacific young people.

These fono aim to create opportunities whereby people who work with Pacific young people may come together to network and showcase an eclectic mix of Pacific young people, Pacific research and researchers, Pacific grass-roots workers, and Pacific initiatives, concepts and innovation.

In August the fono title was "Culture vs Religion" - an intentionally provoking theme to provide a platform for open and honest dialogue. It was attended by 80+ people and the highlight for SPY was the panel where there were  young people openly expressing their experiences and perspectives alongside Ministers and Academics.

To finish the year we held our last Fono in December titled "Resiliency - Bouncing back through the hard times"

Here we were able to reflect on the year NZAAHD has had as a whole and how resilient we have been as a networking body across the country. We also provided an opportunity for others to share on their year and the strengths that have brought them through. This was another well attended event and finished with a relaxed BBQ lunch and afternoon of B-ball.

As we head into the new year we looking forward to our two youngest members of the SPY komiti joining us - the babies of Grace and Renee! We also look forward to Villette Kolose coming on board officially as the SPY administrator - she has been volunteering for years but now we have the capacity to utilize her skills more!  And finally we warmly keep the invitation open for anyone to join the SPY komiti - particularly any of our Pacific Men that have a heart to practically get on board and encourage people working with pacific young people. It's not a huge commitment - just bringing your experience and idea's to the table so we can be more effective in serving our members and community.
