New Zealand Aotearoa Adolescent Health and Development

For people who work with youth

Vision

An Aotearoa where young people are vibrant and optimistic through being supported and encouraged to take up challenges.

Mission

To ensure those people that work with young people, are supported, valued and connected.

NZAAHD is a national network organisation for people who work with young people (those aged 12 to 25).
NZAAHD was founded in 1989 specifically to promote youth health and development.

We have about 350 diverse members, from all walks of life, disciplines and organisations. One of the great things about NZAAHD is that it brings people from across professional and organisational groupings together, for the benefit of the youth sector and young people.

Organisational members include: youth development agencies, youth health one stop shops, District Health Boards, community organisations, schools, social service providers, government, schools, Maori agencies and non-governmental organisations. Individual members include: youth workers, social workers, doctors, nurses, counselors, teachers, educationalists and researchers.

NZAAHD gives you:

A Voice
Members of NZAAHD have a voice to government about issues impacting on them and young people. We keep you informed on policy debates and initiatives being developed by government and other decision-makers.

We also: make submissions, get involved in policy-making, positively advocate on key issues our membership have identified (e.g. access to health care for young people) and act as a voice to media. We invite you to get involved in our position statements, submissions, and media work. As a member, you receive regular invites from us to get involved. Read More>>

Connection
Bringing together people and organisations that work with youth all over Aotearoa, NZAAHD is a national umbrella network. We bring together people from all disciplines and professions, helping you to better enable your work with youth. By connecting up with other people who are working with young people, in and out of your specific field, you build your contacts.

Through regional branches and caucuses, we provide support for members to come together for training, networking and information sharing. NZAAHD provides you with many opportunities to connect and work with other people who work with youth. Read More>>

Information
NZAAHD helps to keep you informed and up to date. We disseminate new research, current affairs and professional development opportunities that relate to young people and your work. We do this through our website, through weekly email updates, and through a quarterly newsletter. Sometimes we even tour speakers around New Zealand. If you are a researcher you can send us your work to distribute. You can search our website for news, information and professional development opportunities.  Read More>>

NZAAHD is a member of the International Association of Adolescent Health (IAAH) , the major international youth health body.
